A Tasmanian fundraising organisation has been awarded a national award by the Stroke Foundation as their “Fundraiser of the Year” in Melbourne this week.  Organisation founder Jo Cordell-Cooper attended the awards Jo Cordell-Cooper receivingrepresenting Tasmanian Iconic Walks, a not for profit but big on purpose volunteer organisation than co-ordinates fundraising walks on low profile Tasmanian wilderness tracks.

“We are thrilled to have been recognised by Stroke Foundation as their Fundraiser of the Year, 2019.  It’s 2 ½ years since we formed Tasmanian Iconic Walks and we have executed 2 long day wilderness hikes and raised close to $55,000 100% of which is donated to Stroke Foundation.” Says Jo, who went on to say  “this award will help us find a sponsor and raise our profile in the media.  It is also a huge pat on the back to our volunteer board who have all had their lives affected by Stroke.  My father died from stroke 12 years ago, but before he died he lived in a nursing home.  He had a very poor quality of life and to be honest if he hadn’t lived for so long I probably wouldn’t have felt the need to create this organisation and raise all this money.  But I’ve seen the devastating effect of stroke first hand.  It never leaves you.  So this is about the future.  It is about how we can help future generations at risk of stroke”.

All Tasmanian Iconic Walks volunteers would like to thank its participants for all the money raised to date.

100 of dollars raised go to Stroke Foundation
