Tasmaniain Iconic Walks received a donation from Hobart Rotary, securing the 2020 and 2021 events

It is with great excitement that Tasmanian Iconic Walks can release the dates for its annual fundraising walk on the beautiful Tasman Arch to Fortescue Bay trail, November 7 2020.  Once again 100% of funds raised by our participants will be donated to Stroke Foundation.  Founder of the local charity Jo Cordell-Cooper was delighted to say that we secured a generous donation from Hobart Rotary Club 9830, and this has enabled us to hold the event for another 2 years at least”.

Announcing the event dates late last year “we are really excited to be offering the event for the third year running.  Last year we were a little down on numbers but our participants raised over $27,000 – they were really passionate about the cause and were really innovative and dedicated in raising money for Stroke Foundation.  In 2019 we attracted Nic Stephen to our event who had a stroke aged 37.  When people understand that you can have a stroke as a young person and make a good recovery, well people are willing to donate – they can see it is a worthy cause.

As an organisation it is important for us to spread our message that physical exercise is the second highest risk factor for having a stroke, so it is important for the knowledge to get out in to the community that if you prepare for an event like this, you will not only be fitter, but also you will lower your personal risk of stroke”.

Jo goes on to make the point “it has been difficult for us to raise funds for our organisation because people 100 of dollars raised go to Stroke Foundationconfuse us with Stroke Foundation.  So we just smile and say “well actually we help FUND Stroke Foundation – not the other way around $1 to us = $3.61 to Stroke Foundation.  People are pretty surprised to hear we have set up this organisation to help others, and it is as simple as that!  When people hear our story of how we have lost loved ones to stroke they understand.”

Our volunteer team at Tasmanian Iconic Walks would also like to spread the word about our event to work places and community organisations that might be interested in placing a team in the event.  We are offering free inspiring talks sharing our story of how our organisation came to be, and how with zero $$ behind us we became Stroke Foundations largest single event donator and winner of their National 2019 Fundraiser of the Year Award.  “It’s a great story of how tragedy can lead to doing a great big good deed that will help others”.
