Preparation for Hiking

Tarn Shelf, Mount Field National Park

5 April 2025

How to get in shape to enjoy our bush walking event

Make no mistake. This is a wilderness experience, not a walk in the park!

You will need to prepare for this fantastic Tasmania hiking experience. You will need to be able to walk for about 7 hours (Tarn Shelf Circuit – 3-5 hours for Tarn Shelf) while carrying an 8-10kg pack containing food, water, a first aid kit, and 4 seasons of clothing. It is Tasmania, after all!

You will need a team to enter and fundraise for the our charity of choice. This year all funds will go to Menzies Institiute of Medical Research – Preventing Stroke MOOC).  MOOC stands for Massive Online Open Course.  This resource will be available globally free of charge.  To date we’ve raised over $230,000.
